I’m so excited!!

This year the Saint Davids Christian Writers’ Association is having a special contest!!

So here are the details:

Design a logo for the Saint Davids Christian Writers Association, capturing the values and mission of our organization.

Each entryshould be submitted as two files, one a 300 dpi jpg and the other a 72 dpi jpg.

All entries must be submitted byJune 4, 2012.

Send entries to: treasurer @ stdavidswriters.com (eliminating the spaces in the address).

This contest is open to anyone, and the person designing the winning logo will receive a full tuition scholarship to the 2013 SDCWA conference. (He or she will still be required to pay room and board.)

Getting It All Together Again

The past several weeks have been crazy busy here in the Lower household. I think we’ve all caught a dose of spring fever, that or the blossoming flowers and beautiful birds have just become too distracting. I’ve had a blue jay and a cardinal visiting almost daily the wood pile outside my kitchen window. It’s so hard to focus on dirty dishes when there is a vibrant colored bird looking back at you through the window. If only they would stay long enough for me to zoom my camera to photograph them for you!

But I manage, really I do.

My fingers have been busy typing on my keyboard, too. I’m happy to say the revisions are finished on FORGOTTEN REINS and will be sent back this coming to the requesting agent.

In the mean time, I’m about seven scenes from finishing UNBRIDLED and Bell’s been asking when we’re going to start a new middle grade story. So over the weekend, we sat down and started plotting out the next book. I love seeing how excited my kids get when I ask them for story ideas. I feel as if my middle grade novels are just as much theirs as they are mine!

Call it spring fever if you want, I’d like to call it writer frenzy. The national write a script in a month is going on right now over at Script Frenzy. Any other year I participate, but this year I didn’t sign up. Now that FORGOTTEN REINS is revised and UNBRIDLED is almost finished, I’ve got a dozen other story ideas in my head.

I’ve been researching the next middle grade novel and I’m having a lot of fun with this. That I’ve gotten some heavy decisions lifted from my chest, I feel so much freer to write again.

I’ve been leaning toward writing a western, what do you think? The sheriff and the outlaw’s daughter, or maybe preacher’s daughter and the outlaw?

The Country Store

Today we headed out to the Country Store for lunch. I hadn’t been to a place like this since Chad and I honeymooned. We drove down through a nearby town and admired the country scenery on our way.

Bug, Chad, and I shared a roast beef hoagie. It wasn’t like your average grocery store hoagie, it was packed … and I mean packed full of fresh-cut meat and sweet tomatoes!

Poor Bug couldn’t open her mouth wide enough to get a whole bit in! And the coolest thing about Country Store, was the seating.

Yeah, that’s a meat cooler! How awesome it that!!

Don’t need fancy silver ware or chandeliers to impress this girl, just give me some farm scenery, a quint little town, and some good food!

Old Painted Barn Advertisments

One of the things I love about going back home to the farm for a visit is seeing the land. It’s like you know you’re almost home when you see the Colabine sitting out in the field.

I have to admit that I’m one of those people who’d rather sit and gawk out the window taking in the scenery rather than doing the actual driving most of the time. And I must say, lwhat a treasure it is when I spy some of the older generation barns with the paint faded, but still clinging, to what once was a tobacco or soft drink ad.

If only there were more driving down old country roads rather than highways, then we’d have no need for bill boards anymore, right? On second thought, there would be no such thing as back roads or country roads anymore, they’d just all be highways.

The ones I enjoy spotting and have seen most often from childhood are like this one, with the tobacco advertisment on the side.

A little Dress-peration

I’ve out shopping for dresses for the girls and I this easter. I’m finding all kinds of cuties for them. It’s so hard to choose!

Purple is my favorite color! This adorable sundress is by Candy Dress Shop on etsy.

This one by Little Tickle Boutique has that vintage old look from back in the time where ladies were dress, just right for the perfect little bell.

Clean, fresh, simply spring is what I like about this little dress by Down With The Kids.

Bell got her ears pierced last week while we were at the mall. So today I thought we’d look at some really neat earrings made by others.

These little rain cloud earrings by Little Gems by Jax just make you think spring, right?

These are just so vibrant. I love the turquoise and lime from Pretty Duzz. A little daring, but I like them, don’t you?

Free Printable Graphics

This week I was introduced to a really inspiring website by The Graphics Fairy.

I found this free graphic of a bird, I’m thinking it will look really cute on a card I’m working on. What I found most inspiring about The Graphics Fairy was the large selection of vintage graphics that are free to use. All you have to do is print them out and your able to use them on any of your crafting projects.

I have to admit that I’m limited to the black and white graphics with my laser printer, but I think it will be fun to play around with differnt designs on here, even if I get to color them in with my colored pencils.

Lower Family Update #8

There is never a dull moment in the Lower household. This week, Bell’s Girl Scout troop got together at the local mall for selling cookies and having a swap to celebrate 100 years of girl scouts!

They had a really good time. Bell even dressed up like a cookie box trying to help her troop sell cookies!

And in between all the fun, she had time to stop in and meet lots of other girl scouts from our area and make a few crafts of her own – like these Pokémon bookmarks she created.

So where was Boy and Bug? They were out helping Papa collect food with Boy’s cub scout troop for a food drive to help the local food banks in the area. I’m happy to say they collected over 800 lbs of can goods!!

Boy lost a tooth this week.

Bug had her special day at school. (Snack day and first in line for big room.) Ah, to be that young and excited over crackers again…

Chad (Papa) gave Ole’ Blue (now affectionately known as Edna the Blue BMW) a good washing on Sunday along with pulling out his motorbike with the signs of spring rapid upon us. We’ve had a warm winter, warmer than usual, but still this warm weather has me almost wanting to get out my spring and summer clothes. Yet, I’m waiting for that one last snow. My grandfather would have said it was and onion snow. We’ll just see if it comes.

This weekend, I’m off to a local craft show to browse and enjoy time with the family. If you’re in the area, the West Branch Builder’s show is the weekend, I think Chad may be heading there, while the kids and I plan on doing some painting and maybe a little baking. We’ll see. It’s so nice out, we could go for a bike ride, but my knee wouldn’t like it very much. Hopefully, soon.

What’s on your agenda this weekend? A little fun in the sun? Family adventures? or just chill’n?
