Framed Love Poem

January 9, 2012

I decided to think outside the box for today’s post. Bella wrote this awesome poem with a friend of hers at school, that got published in the paper last month for Christmas. Now, she and her friend are working on a poem for Valentine’s Day. I got an entire lesson about anagrammatic poetry from her over the weekend.  So, I attempted to create one of my own. **Please note, I’m a fiction writer by day — not a poet. But I do my best. **

I’ve placed my lovely anagram poem in a frame and placed it in our dinning room. It actually goes quite well with the decor.

You can create your own anagram poem and frame it by doing the following:

1. Pick a word, like love, and write sentences or words that begin with the letter or the word. So like LOVE. I used these words: L is Lepid, O is Obsessive, V is Volitent, and E is Everlasting. See how that works? ( Oh and Lepid = pleasant or joyous and Volitent = willing. Another new thing learned when I was trying to find words related to love for my anagram poem. It’s amazing the new words you can discover by just opening your fourth grader’s dictionary!)

2.  I grabbed one of those dollar frames when I was at the grocery store, you know the kind that are down the dollar aisle.

3. Then I cut a piece of Kraft paper 8″ x 10″ (standard photo size), and I scored it every inch horizontally. (It’s hard to see in the photo, but it looks neat close up.)

4. I cut out two hearts (3″ tall and 2″ tall) using my circuit machine and tied them with some baker’s twine. Then I took some zebra print scrapbook paper and some pink paper to border my printed poem.

5. I took a few rhinestones and a quote embellishment from scrapbook supplies I have to finish the details.

And voila! A beautiful framed love poem

Not only was it inexpensive, but super easy to create.

If you had to pick four words to describe love using the letters L,O,V,E, what would they be?
